Charging stations in buildings

Electric vehicle charging should be done, whenever possible, at home — the place where we spend the most time and where charging is most convenient.

If you live in a building with a garage or parking area, you can install a charging point. Connecting to the Mobi.E network is optional but offers advantages: by joining, you become a Charging Point Owner (CPO) and the energy consumed is billed directly to you via your electric mobility card or app.

This way, you avoid conflicts with other residents, as the consumption for your vehicle is not charged to the building’s common expenses, being automatically separated from the communal bill.

How do I install a charging station in my condominium?

Contact one of the following: Manufacturer, certified installer or Charging Point Operator. The installer must complete the Mobi.E network charging station creation file

If you are an apartment owner, you must inform the Condominium Administration of your intention to install the charger (you can use this document).

Send the following documentation to MOBI.E via email to geral@mobie.pt*:
- Charging point creation file, Charging point creation file, completed by the installation company.
- Electricity bill, to confirm the Delivery Point Code (CPE).
Mobi.E Adhesion Agreement, duly completed and signed.
- If the charging station is installed by a legal entity, a document proving the authority of the person signing the Agreement on behalf of the entity must be submitted. Depending on the type of entity, please include:
                       - Company: Permanent Certificate or the corresponding access code.
                       - Private Institution of Social Solidarity (IPSS): Copy of the Articles of Association.
                       - Condominium: Minutes of the appointment of the administrators or managers.
- If the Agreement is signed by a proxy, the power of attorney signed by someone authorised to bind the entity must also be submitted.

* If the documentation is signed by hand, two original copies of the documents must be sent in physical format by post, together with the Permanent Certificate.

Once the process has been submitted, what are the next steps?

MOBI.E sends the signed Adhesion Agreement, with the Point Holder number and, if requested, the SIM card, to be placed at the charging station.

The condominium owner will receive an automatic email confirming the creation of their station, indicating the respective ID, as well as instructions for subsequent configuration.

If the contracted installer is not a Charging Point Operator, they must ask the installer of the station (manufacturer or other, provided they are certified) to proceed, in accordance with the useful information provided at the bottom of this page.

Advantages of becoming a Charging Point Holder:

  • Possibility of benefiting from state support;
  • Charging the vehicle at night, taking advantage of lower electricity tariffs;
  • Separation of energy consumption between the owner and the condominium.

The condominium administration cannot oppose the installation of a charging station, with the following exceptions:

  • When the installation of a charging point for shared use is planned within 90 days of the condominium owner's communication;
  • When there is already a charging point for shared use;
  • If the charging point jeopardizes the safety of the building or damages the architectural line of the building.

This possibility serves both apartment owners and condominium administrations, who can also install charging points in common areas of the building, which can be used by all apartment owners, each paying for their own energy.

Useful information for installers:

The charging station must be installed in accordance with the DGEG technical guide, the RTIEBT rules in their consolidated version and the legislation in force; the station must be configured in accordance with the instructions sent by MOBI.E; the station must be able to communicate with the Mobi.E system (via the SIM card, when requested, or in another way that allows data communication, e.g. Wi-Fi); commissioning tests must be scheduled by sending a request to geral@mobie.pt.
